SHIELD Illinois - a COVID-19 Screening Testing Program

  • Sept. 9, 2021

School District U-46 will soon offer optional and free, weekly saliva COVID-19 testing to all unvaccinated students through the University of Illinois’s SHIELD testing program. Please note, that only students whose parents/guardians submitted the signed consent form will be tested. The test is simple, fast and will take place at schools during the school day.

Consenting to routine screening may allow students to stay in school when they otherwise may have had to quarantine and miss in-person instruction.

Parents who want to give their consent to have their unvaccinated children to be tested for the COVID-19 infection must complete this form (Para ver el formulario en español, haga clic aquí.). The completed form can then be submitted either to the building nurse in your child's school or by emailing a PDF to healthservices@u-46.org.

Testing will begin Sept. 13 at two elementary schools and then extend to all other U-46 schools on Sept. 21. Again, this is an optional test for unvaccinated students. We are asking that our unvaccinated staff members participate in testing in order to comply with the Governor’s Executive Order.

Thank you for your ongoing collaboration and support as we all work together to stay safe and ready to learn in U-46.

Find more information about the testing process under "More Resources" and by reading the two PDFs below:
