Mr. Tony Sanders

Oversees the day-to-day operations of the District and ensures that schools and the District meet the expectations, policies and plans of the District, Board of Education, and state and federal agencies. Responsible for an annual half-billion dollar budget that helps support a total 4,518 Full-Time Equivalent staff, including about 2,500 educators. The District serves more than 39,000 pre-kindergartners through 12th graders in their academic growth as they prepare for college and careers. The CEO is responsible for the implementation of Board of Education policy; the alignment of resources to the Board-approved Strategic Plan; demonstrating progress towards the goals established in the Accountability Plan for Continuous Improvement; and the review and implementation of the District’s Annual Planning Cycle.

Oversees Curriculum and Instruction, Specialized Student Services, English Language Learners, Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Early Learners Initiatives, and Assessment and Accountability, as well the Teacher Mentor Program and Professional Growth and Development. Coordinates initiatives for grades Pre-K through 12th to ensure that students are on track to succeed in college and careers. Leads planning and implementation of educational services and initiatives to support engaging teaching and learning environments. Named the Kane County "Administrator of the Year" in 2017.

Oversees leadership of 13 secondary schools (eight middle and five high schools), including middle and high school alternative programs; and K-12 Gifted, Advanced Placement, Academies, World Languages, Guidance and Career & Technical Education. Monitors the development, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives, policies, and leadership to support student success and strong parental engagement.

Oversees Human Resources initiatives and maintains policies and practices to ensure that U-46 recruits, retains, develops and recognizes a high-quality workforce. Supervises and assists in the development and assessment of the Teacher Effectiveness programs, which includes the Teacher Appraisal Plan, and Peer Assistance and Review. Develops and implements quality professional development of employees.

Oversees and drives the following district-wide systems and initiatives: Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) College Readiness System, Year-Long Equity Professional Development Training System, and Mentoring Calibration Initiative System. Aligns educational and community initiatives to the district strategic plan and collaborates with district staff and stakeholders. Monitors District data and creates equity-oriented data reports to compare District trends to regional, state, and national trends. In addition, serves as the main District liaison for Alignment Collaborative for Education (ACE), African-American Advisory Council, Interfaith Advisory Council, Housing Authority Elgin (HAE), Human Resources Department Recruitment, Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend Celebration, and Superintendent's Scholarship.

Provides legal counsel to the Chief Executive Officer, the Board of Education and other administration. Assists the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Education in the legal performance of their duties. Directs and coordinates labor and employee relations. Assists in negotiations of labor contracts with the District bargaining units. Coordinates and provides the legal services required by the District.
