School Updates

  • Dear Centennial Elementary School Parents/Guardians,

We are pleased to announce that Anthony Crespo has been selected to take on the role of principal at Centennial Elementary, bringing with him more than a decade of administrative experience. Mr. Crespo grounds his practice in listening, learning, and then leading, emphasizing a culture of collaboration and support among students, teachers, families, and school administration. He looks to strengthen the learning environment through equitable practices and goal-setting for the student body.

For the last four years, Mr. Crespo has been the assistant principal of Monroe Middle School in Wheaton, part of Community Unit School District 200. There, he serves as an instructional leader for more than 700 students and 125 employees and the lead administrator for the building’s special education program, as well as overseeing the building’s operations, disciplinary and restorative practice structures, attendance, and student activities.

From 2018-2021, Mr. Crespo was the principal at the Center for Student Success in the DuPage Regional Office of Education. He served as an instructional leader and principal liaison for 42 DuPage County school districts. He also taught, modeled, and established restorative and trauma-informed practices building-wide.

Mr. Crespo has also held building leadership roles at Mundelein High School in Mundelein Consolidated High School District 120, East Aurora High School in East Aurora School District 131, and Proviso Township East High School and Proviso Township West High School in Forest Park-based District 209.

From 2004-2012, Mr. Crespo worked at the Bellalago Academy in the School District of Osceola County, Florida. His positions there included physical education teacher, physical education division chair, athletic director, teacher mentor, and basketball coach.

Mr. Crespo earned a bachelor’s degree in international business from Ramapo College of New Jersey and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Walden University.

We’re also glad to welcome Ms. MaryRose Matheson as the new assistant principal for Centennial Elementary. She brings over 20 years of educational experience from School District 89 in Maywood, including more than 15 years as a classroom teacher for kindergarten, third grade, and fifth grade students at Emerson Elementary School. Her passion for inclusive education led her to transition into special education, where she served as a resource teacher and then as the special education lead teacher at District 89’s Washington Dual Language Academy. She was later promoted to dean of students at Irving Middle School.

Ms. Matheson is also a proud Centennial parent, with one daughter currently attending and another daughter now at Eastview Middle School.

Please join me in congratulating Anthony Crespo and MaryRose Matheson on their new roles at Centennial Elementary.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Kyle Bunker
