Degrees and Certifications:
Bachelor of Arts - Secondary Education Teaching of English The University of Illinois at Chicago
Hi! My name is Samantha Fletcher, and I teach 8th grade English and 7th Grade Social Studies at Kenyon Woods. This is my fourth year of teaching and my second year at Kenyon.
I grew up in Lake Villa, Illinois, where I attended Thompson Elementary School and Palombi Middle School. At Grayslake North High School, I was actively involved in my school newspaper, where I was Editor-in-Chief. I also was a varsity softball player for four years, and was a member of the sports leadership council.
After graduating in 2009, I began my collegiate career at the University of Missouri, where I planned to study Journalism. After my freshman year, my gut told me that I belonged in education. During my transfer period, I participated in the Disney College Program in Orlando, Florida. This means that I spent a semester gaining work experience and college credits while working at Walt Disney World! During my CP, I worked at Big Thunder Mountain at the Magic Kingdom. For several years afterwards, I spent my summers working in Orlando at Disney's Wide World of Sports.
When I completed my College Program, I transferred to the Univeristy of Illinois at Chicago to study Secondary English Education. Throughout my time at UIC, I gained experience working with students in Chicago Public Schools and completed my student teaching in Oak Park.
Teaching is my passion, and I do everything I can to make sure my students are learning and having fun. In addition to teaching, I am a die-hard Cubs fan, I love to travel to tropical locations with my friends and family, and of course, I love to read. My favorite novel is To Kill a Mockingbird - so don't be surprised if you hear your students talk about how nerdy I am when we read it!
