School Social Worker/Trabajadora Social

Serving students with last names/Apellidos que empiezan con: A-F

Hello! My name is Katie Smiley, and this is my 6th year as a social worker at Larkin, and 8th year in School District U46. I grew up in Antioch, IL, and learned from an early age that I wanted to work with high school students. I decided to pursue my undergraduate degree in social work from Carthage College and went on to get a master's degree in school social work from Loyola. Working at Larkin is a dream come true because I get to meet so many amazing students and families! I truly love what I do, and hope to provide a safe and judgment-free space for all. In my free time, I coach boys volleyball at Larkin, hike, craft, and spend time with family and friends.

Hello! My name is Gaby Del Toro. I was born and raised in Aurora, IL by two wonderful Mexican immigrant parents. I am a proud graduate of Barry University’s School of Social Work program in Miami, FL and I currently hold a License in Clinical Social Work. My work experience has primarily focused on serving adolescent youth and their families. I worked in non-profit agencies for 4 years as a Youth & Family Therapist both in Florida and in Illinois treating a variety of mental health concerns. Previously, I worked in District 15-Palatine as a Bilingual Elementary and Junior High Social Worker. I am currently in my 5th year as a ROYAL and I absolutely LOVE what I do! It is truly an honor to be in a position of service and healing. It is not easy to open up to someone about life’s struggles. I try my hardest to create a warm, welcoming, and non-judgemental space where my students are always valued, respected, and heard.
