Starting with the 2021-22 school year, Ms. Rebecca Lunak will serve as principal at Channing Memorial Elementary School. 

Ms. Lunak has been an educator in U-46 for 23 years, including the last two years as the assistant principal at Channing. She brings a long-time commitment to building relationships with students, staff, and families as well as her expertise in English language instruction and her leadership skills. She served as a teacher at Liberty Elementary in Bartlett and Laurel Hill Elementary in Hanover Park prior to joining the Channing team. In both roles, she participated or led schoolwide committees to improve students’ sense of belonging, behavior, and academic outcomes. 

Ms. Lunak earned her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Illinois State University, a Master of Arts degree in linguistics from Northeastern Illinois University, and another Master of Arts degree in educational leadership from Roosevelt University. 

In her free time, Ms. Lunak enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters playing board games, watching movies, and being outdoors.
