    In alignment with the Equity Policy of School District U-46, the District’s Strategic Plan and in support of democratic ideals, the U-46 High School Magnet Programs are committed to providing an empathetic and progressive educational environment that embraces the diversity amongst students, staff, and community members. U-46 High School Magnet Programs will recruit and support students of diverse backgrounds, intentionally maintain a culturally competent curriculum, and value the unique perspectives and life experiences of all community members so that our students will become leaders capable of engaging in a diverse, global society.

    Conforme a la Política de Equidad del Distrito Escolar U-46, el Plan Estratégico del Distrito y en favor a los ideales democráticos, los Programas de las Academias de Enfoque Especializado de U-46 se comprometen a proveer un entorno educativo progresivo y comprensivo que abarque la diversidad entre los estudiantes, el personal y miembros de la comunidad. Los Programas de las Academias de Enfoque Especializado de U-46 seleccionarán y darán apoyo a estudiantes de diversos entornos, mantendrán un plan de estudio culturalmente competente y darán valor a las perspectivas únicas y las experiencias de vida de todos los miembros de la comunidad de modo que nuestros estudiantes se conviertan en líderes con la capacidad de participar en una sociedad global diversa.

  • BEACON’s Mission

    To teach students, who desire enhanced training in digital storytelling, the various theoretical foundations of media content creation and analysis through hands-on application and instructor-facilitated experiences in broadcasting, radio and film.

    A BEACON graduate will be…

    • able to obtain employment or internships in digital media and/or broadcasting.
    • able to tell a story through written, visual and auditory media.
    • a student who is proficient in videography, editing, sound production, and content creation and who can adapt to/shift between these multiple facets of media production.
    • a student who can critically analyze all forms of media, including his or her own products.

    The Beacon Academy of Media & Digital Arts has been recognized as a nationally-certified magnet school! The academy, located at South Elgin High School, prepares students to become skillful and successful media makers in the areas of audio and video production, broadcast journalism, webcasting, and web design.
