Assessment is an integral part of the educational process. It allows teachers to determine what and how students are learning. It provides information used to make decisions about teaching individual students as well as broad determinations on the effectiveness of the instructional program in a school and the overall school system.
The Early Learners program in U-46 is a partnership of family, school and community working collaboratively to provide comprehensive services to young children. Services are provided by highly-trained early childhood professionals. Curriculum and practices that are appropriate for the child's developmental level are used to meet the diverse needs of young children in a culturally sensitive environment.
School District U-46 welcomes all families to our learning community. We provide services to meet the linguistic and academic needs of children whose native language is not English. Because of U-46’s location in the Fox Valley and the communities it serves, children from more than 100 language backgrounds are represented in our classrooms. Hispanic students comprise the vast majority followed by Polish and Gujarati speaking students. U-46 has the second largest English Language Learners Program in the State of Illinois outside the city of Chicago.
U-46 provides a variety of gifted programs to ensure that every high-achieving student has an opportunity to excel.
The safety of students and staff at School District U-46 is a top priority. In today’s society the heightened focus on security and safety protocols is imperative. Safe school planning is a partnership that includes local emergency responders, community members, government leaders, social service networks, parents and students. Through this collaboration, safer environments for students and staff can be accomplished.
The Specialized Student Services department includes Special Education, 504 Plans and Health Services.
The Board of Education (BOE) is responsible for determining the policies which guide the operation of School District U-46.
