Gifted Programs

  • U-46 provides a variety of gifted programs to ensure that every high-achieving student has an opportunity to excel.

Access to Inquiry and Meaning (AIM) is a talent development program, designed to provide enrichment opportunities for the development of  potential in students from underrepresented populations in 2nd and 3rd grade. IGNITE and Dual Language IGNITE (Inquiry and Gifted Network for Ingenuity Talent and Exploration) are school-within-a-school programs for 4th through 6th grade students who demonstrate achievement or specific academic aptitude in the areas of Mathematics and English Language Arts and perform beyond the norm for their age group.  Gifted services continue for 7th & 8th graders through the Middle School Gifted program. High School Academies are designed to take high school students to new levels of creative, interdisciplinary learning and give them a head start on their college education and career path. Advanced Placement course offerings are also available to high school students.

  • Spring 2019 Universal Gifted Screening

Between March 4-15, 2019 all District U-46 second  grade students will participate in the Gifted universal screening process.  We will be administering the Cognitive Abilities Test 7 (CogAT 7) during the school day. Specific dates will be available from your child’s school.

Only the CogAT will take place in March. The identification process for the elementary program will be completed in the Fall of 2019.  At that time each child’s comprehensive student profile will be evaluated by the District U-46 Gifted Identification Committee. The committee will identify students who are in need of gifted and talented services. Decisions and CogAT scores will be mailed to all parents in the Fall of 2019.  Students identified for Gifted Services will begin the program in fourth grade.

Current third and sixth grade students who require make-up testing or are newly enroll will also participate in this screening.

Students residing in District U-46 but not currently enrolled may request testing by submitting a Request for Testing by March 12th.
