Dear U-46 parents and guardians,

I have a few important reminders to share with you today, so please read these closely and follow the links for more information. 

SPRING CALENDAR

This Monday, March 29 is the start of our spring recess which goes through Monday, April 5, and there will be no online or in-person instruction. Please note that all District offices and buildings will be closed on April 5.

Tuesday, April 6, is an election day and, as some of our sites are used as polling places, the entire district will be remote/Distance Learning that day and utilize the current Monday online, synchronous schedule. Our new instructional schedule, outlined here, will begin on Wednesday, April 7.

ONLINE REGISTRATION

Online registration will get underway on Thursday, April 1 and it’s important that students get registered as early as possible. Remember, the U-46 Board of Education has approved a waiver of all K-12 instructional fees for the 2021-22 school year. The District will instead cover the cost of these registration fees, totalling $2.3 to $2.5 million, as a measure to help families who have struggled financially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Optional fees such as for Driver’s Ed and other athletic sports participation will still be collected.

We are requesting all families to register online using your laptop, desktop, or your student's district-issued chromebook. Instructions located at u-46.org/registration. 

MEAL SERVICE REMINDERS

All in-person instruction students will be offered free breakfast and lunch.  Elementary students will be provided a take-home lunch on Mondays, and an on-site hot lunch Tuesday through Friday that they will eat on site. Principals will share precise lunch location details with their school communities. Students will also be provided a daily take-home breakfast Monday through Friday. Secondary students will be provided lunch to eat on site Monday through Friday and a daily take-home breakfast.

Curbside meal distribution will continue at all current locations as listed on the Food and Nutrition Services department’s website page. Please note that new service hours will run from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

SURVEY REMINDERS

It’s not too late for 4th through 12th graders to take the Equity and Inclusion Survey. Big thanks to all those students who have already done so. Through this week’s Survey Day and other efforts, we have increased participation by 18 percentage points. More than half of our eligible students have completed the survey and we want to continue to increase participation as it’s important we hear from every student! If your child can’t find the email with their unique link, they can take the survey by navigating to surveys.panoramaed.com/u46 and entering their Student ID, which serves as their access code. That survey will close at the end of tomorrow (March 26). Learn more about why we are undertaking this vital work here.

Additionally, parents still have a chance to complete the Illinois 5Essentials Survey, which will close April 2. You can learn more about this important tool for guiding school improvement here and parents can take the survey at https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/. Thanks again to all those who have taken both these surveys as they help guide our school and district improvement work.

Estimados padres y tutores legales del Distrito U-46,

Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes algunos importantes recordatorios, por favor tómese un momento para verlos de cerca y siga los enlaces para obtener más información.

CALENDARIO DE PRIMAVERA

Este lunes, 29 de marzo comienza nuestro receso de primavera y continúa hasta el lunes, 5 de abril. No habrá instrucción en línea, ni presencial. Por favor, tome nota que todas las oficinas y edificios del Distrito estarán cerrados el 5 de abril.

El martes, 6 de abril, es un día de elecciones y, como varios de nuestros sitios se utilizan como lugares para votar, ese día todo el distrito estará trabajando remotamente o en Aprendizaje a Distancia. Por lo cual, utilizaremos el horario actual del lunes como aprendizaje sincrónico. Nuestro nuevo horario de instrucción, que se describe aquí, dará inicio el miércoles, 7 de abril.

INSCRIPCIÓN EN LÍNEA

La inscripción en línea comenzará el jueves, 1° de abril. Es importante que inscriban a los estudiantes lo antes posible. Recuerde, la Junta Educativa del Distrito U-46 aprobó hacer una exención de las cuotas de instrucción del año escolar 2021-22 para todos los estudiantes de kindergarten a 12° grado. Esta decisión significa que el Distrito cubrirá los costos de estas cuotas de inscripción, por un total de aproximadamente $2.3 a $2.5 millones como una medida para brindar alivio a las familias que han luchado financieramente en medio de la pandemia COVID-19. Aún se van a recaudar las cuotas opcionales, como, por ejemplo, de la clase de Educación del Conductor y la participación en otras actividades deportivas.

Estamos solicitando que todas las familias se inscriban en línea usando una computadora portátil, o el chromebook de su estudiante proporcionado por el distrito. Puede encontrar las instrucciones en u-46.org/registration.

RECORDATORIOS DEL SERVICIO DE COMIDA

Todos los estudiantes en instrucción presencial recibirán desayuno y almuerzo gratuito. Los lunes, los estudiantes de escuela elemental recibirán un almuerzo para llevar a casa, y de martes a viernes recibirán un almuerzo caliente para comer en la escuela. Los directores compartirán con sus familias detalles específicos sobre dónde comerán los estudiantes. También de lunes a viernes, los estudiantes recibirán un desayuno diario para llevar a casa. A los estudiantes de nivel secundario, se les proporcionará almuerzo en la escuela de lunes a viernes y un desayuno diario para llevar a casa.

La distribución de comidas para llevar continuará en todos los sitios actuales como aparece en el sitio web del departamento de Servicios de Alimentos y Nutrición. Por favor tome nota que habrá nuevos horarios de servicio de 7:30 a.m. a 10 a.m.

RECORDATORIO DE ENCUESTA

Los estudiantes de 4° a 12° grado aún pueden completar la Encuesta de Equidad e Inclusión. Agradecemos a todos los estudiantes que ya lo han hecho. Durante el Día de Encuesta de esta semana y a través de otros esfuerzos, hemos incrementado la participación por 18 puntos de porcentaje. ¡Más de la mitad de nuestros estudiantes elegibles han completado la encuesta y queremos continuar aumentando la participación ya que es importante que escuchemos a cada estudiante! Si su hijo(a) no puede encontrar el correo electrónico con el enlace específicamente para él/ella, puede tomar la encuesta a través del enlace surveys.panoramaed.com/u46 e ingresar su número de identificación estudiantil, que sirve como su código de acceso. La encuesta se cierra mañana (26 de marzo). Aprenda más acerca de por qué estamos llevando a cabo este importante trabajo aquí.

Además, los padres aún tienen oportunidad de completar la Encuesta de Illinois 5Essentials, la cual cerrará el 2 de abril.
