Welcome to the homepage for Streamwood High School's chapter of the National Honor Society.

"The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school and middle level students.

More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. These characteristics have been          associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921." (From the National Honors Society website).

Streamwood High School is proud to have a chapter of the National Honor Society, proud of our members who exhibit the National Honors Society characteristics and proud of the difference our students make  in the greater Streamwood community.

In the 2015-2016 school year alone, Streamwood NHS members logged over 3000 hours of community service!  To track your community service, please use the form linked below. To receive a copy of your community service hours, please contact Mrs. Fernstrom or Mr. Vassolo.

    Streamwood National Honors Society Membership
Membership in the NHS is awarded through a selection process. The selection process consists of sending invitations to apply to Junior and Seniors with a Grade Point Index of 3.5 or above. However, grades are only the benchmark criteria for candidacy. Character, leadership, and service are of even greater importance in the selection process.

Students applying must demonstrate Academics, Character, Leadership, and Service. Students' applications are an opportunity for them to write about their character and involvement. The NHS selection committee reviews student involvement in school activities, leadership positions held, participation in community activities and community service, and any work experience, recognition, or awards students have previously received. Finally each applicant must have two teacher recommendation forms completed and submitted on their behalf. The applications must come from former teachers who can comment on students' leadership, work ethic, quality of work, and reliability.

It is a great honor to be selected as a member of the National Honor Society and benefits include recognition in the national organization established to distinguish outstanding high school students, additional opportunities for and recognition for community service, an opportunity to be ambassadors for Streamwood High School, membership in a community of students who put service before self, and eligibility for NHS Scholarships at the local and national level.
