NICHOLE LENTINO, THIRD GRADE TEACHER AT OTTER CREEK
What are some of your daily work responsibilities?
I teach general education.
How long have you worked for U-46?
Eight years.
What is it like to work for the District where you attended school and from which you graduated and what does it mean to you?
It’s incredible to give back to the community that gave me so much growing up. I believe in what U-46 has to offer, because I experienced a U-46 education myself. The more experience I gain as a teacher (and in life in general,) the more appreciative I am of the incredible atmosphere I grew up in.
Which U-46 schools did you attend?
Clinton Elementary School, Abbott Middle School, and Elgin High School.
What year did you graduate from high school?
2007.
What was your favorite subject and why?
My favorite subject was Creative Writing, I felt really challenged and grew in a way I had no idea was possible.
Who was your favorite teacher and why?
My third grade teacher Mrs. Trish Rosiejka. She held her students to high standards and made learning so much fun! There was a lot of freedom in our learning, giving us choice and inquiry time at a very young age.
Please share a favorite memory from your time as a student in U-46.
I was captain of Elgin High’s poms-poms team my senior year. Being involved in such a fun and diverse team made high school so fun.
Please share a favorite memory of working in U-46?
My favorite memory of working in U-46 has to be when I coached dance at Elgin High School for a year. Being able to work in a school I had so much love for with such inspirational students was amazing! Elgin High does a great job of creating a strong community- it was great to be a part of it.
Briefly describe your post-secondary college and/or career experience.
I went to Roosevelt University with a very small group of other classmates.
What important life or academic lesson did you learn in U-46?
There’s no better way to learn about other cultures and traditions than to be immersed with friends of different cultures and traditions.
