U-46 Team Member Megan Grizzell
MEGAN GRIZZELL, LIBRARIAN AT STREAMWOOD HIGH SCHOOL
What are some of your daily work responsibilities?
I wear many hats. I work with students and staff on lessons for research, reader's advisory, and STEM skills. I also co-sponsor the Freshman Class Council.
How long have you worked for U-46?
Eight years.
What is it like to work for the District where you attended school and from which you graduated and what does it mean to you?
It was interesting at first. My first teaching job was at the high school I graduated from, so it took some time for me to call my colleagues by their first name and not Mr. or Mrs., but it's honestly been great. It's home. Having grown up in the District, and in some cases down the street from my students, I feel connected to them in ways that other teachers don't. It makes the bond between teacher and student that much stronger.
Which U-46 schools did you attend?
Coleman Elementary School, Larsen Middle School, and Elgin High School.
What year did you graduate from high school?
2007.
What was your favorite subject and why?
It’s a toss up between English and Foods. I had amazing teachers who created a fun environment and pushed me to be better.
Who was your favorite teacher and why?
Effie Rouse. She was hands down one of the most amazing humans I have ever known. She taught me how to push myself to be better academically, and then professionally when she became my divisional. She is someone I will always admire and will try and make proud every day.
Please share a favorite memory from your time as a student in U-46.
I don't know that I have one memory, but I did have many moments with teachers, and now I'm lucky enough to call them friends.
Please share a favorite memory of working in U-46?
One of my favorite memories, and something I will hold on to forever, is working graduation for my first class of seniors. They were so excited to be graduating, and it was so amazing to get to talk to them and be a part of that celebration.
Briefly describe your post-secondary college and/or career experience.
I attended Elgin Community College for my Associate's, Northern Illinois University for my Bachelor's and University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana for my Master's degree.
What important life or academic lesson did you learn in U-46?
The lessons you learn growing up, both in and out of school, help better equip you for the real world. I can honestly say that because of my experiences at Elgin, I was better prepared for life outside of high school.
