I am LEAD: Living Elegantly, Ambitiously, and Dauntlessly
The I am LEAD: Living Elegantly, Ambitiously, and Dauntlessly enrichment program is centered around providing spaces and experiences where our girls can be their beautifully and wonderfully made selves. LEAD was created as a platform for girls of African American heritage from grades five through eight. LEAD allows girls to exercise their leadership, strengthen their self-worth, cultivate their cultural awareness, and demonstrate their problem solving, creative thinking, and conflict resolution skills.
Since 2014, it has been an honor for a group of volunteers within the community to serve our LEAD girls at about a dozen of our schools. Even with such a small team, the LEAD young ladies are girded with adults who believe in them, value all that they bring with them, and expect to be amazed by them. They have provided community service at the Food for Greater Elgin, the Community Crisis Center, and within their respective schools. At the end of last school year, some of us came together to recognize, listen to, and have fun with the girls and their families, as you will see in the pictures.
As we begin the 2023-2024 school year, it is our mission to continue LEAD. If you are interested in joining the team or would like to have LEAD in your building, please contact Tiffany Mikhail Wright firstname.lastname@example.org.
