How do I become a mentor teacher?
Posted by:There are three ways to become a mentor:
1. Peer nomination
2. Self nomination
3. Administrator nominationApplication process:
1. Enroll in the Canvas Course called "New Mentor Training"
2. Complete the first module by uploading a completed application and letters of recommendation from your current appraiser and a colleague.
3. Complete the second module, which is a virtual/synchronous 1-hour training.
4. Application materials will be reviewed by the TMP Oversight Committee which meets the third Monday of each month.
5. Once application materials have been approved, the new mentor will be added to the Mentor Pool and will be eligible to be matched.

How many years of experience do I need to become a mentor
Posted by:4 years teaching experience on a Professional Educator License with a minimum of 2 years in the district is required. Tenure is NOT a pre-requisite

How are mentors and mentees matched?
Posted by:Mentors and mentees are matched by the TMP Oversight Committee. First, requests by the new teachers are honored. If a mentor has not been requested, the matching process is guided by an incredible mentor matching program that identifies mentors that are in the same building, grade level and/or department. Considering this information, a mentor is selected and asked to make a 1 year commitment if they are matched with an experienced new teacher (ENT) or a 2 year commitment if they are matched with a beginning new teacher (BNT).

How often will the mentor and mentee (new teacher) meet?
Posted by:Mentors and mentees should be meeting a minimum of once every two-three weeks depending on the needs of the mentee. IMentors and mentees will meet and talk about relevant issues and topics as they relate to student learning and the mentee's work. They may use the monthly checklists to help guide conversations in needed.

When does the program begin?
Posted by:The TMP begins during a new teacher's first year of employment after they sign a contract with Human Resources. New teachers will be able to enroll in a course in Canvas to begin their professional learning journey with the Teacher Mentor Program.

Is there a certain time in which I should apply?
Posted by:Don't wait! Apply any time of the year by enrolling in the New Mentor Training course in Canvas. Keep in mind, the final approval stage is done my the TMP Oversight Committee which meets on the second Monday of each month.

What will this program provide for the new teacher?
Posted by:The program provides dedicated assistance from an exemplary veteran educator and offers the participants the opportunity to grow professionally in areas such as planning & preparation, classroom management, instruction and professional responsibilities.

Where do I upload my documents for the portfolio?
Posted by:Please upload your documentation to the Mentor Matching Site.

Will the mentor be in the same school?
Posted by:All efforts are made for an in-building match and/or in-department match. If not possible, we will match out of building.

What Canvas Courses are required for my work with the Teacher Mentor Program?
Posted by:All Mentors that are matched with a mentee will be enrolled in a Mentor Professional Development course.
All Year 1 Mentees have their own course and all Year 2 mentees have their own course.
There is also a New Mentor Training course for those interested in becoming a mentor.
