What is the most important thing you learned in high school?
One of the most important things I learned in high school is that failing a test or getting one bad grade is not the end of the world. There is always a chance to ace the next test and show you do understand. If we were all to dwell on the past there would never be a future.
What is your favorite high school memory?
My favorite high school memory is playing volleyball. I played on varsity for three years, all three surrounded by my best friends. Playing a sport you love with the people you love is the best equation for endless memories.
What is your best advice to future first-generation students?
Don't only focus on the academics, you need to be able to have fun and crawl out of your shell to really get the whole high school experience and succeed.
What is a challenge that you have overcome as a first-generation college student?
As a first-generation student, one challenge I had to overcome is the fear of failure. I had to realize that the future is fueled off of what I do today. I didn't know where to start, how to start, or even what I wanted to do. But everything came with time, and I learned that sometimes taking risks can be the best option for yourself.
What does it mean to you to receive the Superintendent’s Scholarship?
To have been selected for the Superintendent Scholarship means I have made a significant impact on someone. That someone read my essay and made a connection to the words I had displayed. To have this opportunity really fuels my excitement for college. This scholarship is a huge push in the right direction and has increased my motivation for the future.
