What is the most important thing you learned in high school?
If you really want to get something out of your education, one must work diligently and effectively. I learned how to sacrifice time to evolve myself to the student I want to be and prepare myself mentally, so when it gets to college I am ready for what the real world throws at me.
What is your favorite high school memory?
I don't only have one favorite high school memory. The best memories I've made throughout high school was through the sport I'm very passionate about, which is volleyball. I met my best friends through volleyball and being involved in the volleyball program has built me up as a person.
What is your best advice to future first-generation students?
Do not be afraid to ask or seek for help when struggling with the college process. Also, try your best to organize your personal and school life.
What is a challenge that you have overcome as a first-generation college student?
I had to overcome facing all the challenges that come from school first and being a role model for my younger siblings, so that they can get on the right path. I also had to learn how to manage my time with school and being involved in school, so I can also get a job to support my family financially.
What does it mean to you to receive the Superintendent’s Scholarship?
It is a great honor to receive the Superintendent Scholarship because now I know that money will not stop me in achieving my dreams. Being a U-46 Superintendent's Scholarship recipient means that I am getting closer to obtaining a degree, so I can one day take care of my family and show them that I did achieve the "American Dream."
