What Counts as Professional Development in Illinois?
-
The type of learning that qualifies for ISBE Professional Development Hours is part of Illinois School Code. We are working this year to better align ourselves with these requirements. This may mean that some activities that we previously awarded CPDU's for may no longer receive them. The text from the school code, the form that is submitted with each PD offering, and additional guidance from ISBE are included on this page to help increase awareness about these guidelines.
-
All PD that provides ISBE PD Hours must align with the text in the Illinois School Code. The two documents below outline the four large areas that can define the purpose of professional development.

In addition, each PD session that we offer has to have a corresponding Approved Professional Development Provider Activity Summary Form. These forms are subject to audit by the state and provide more detail for the expectations the state has set forward for PD.
NOTE: The Evaluation form that you are required to fill out at the end of the PD is a sort of post-test on whether we met the expectations set forth on this form.
The form was redone in January 2020 and added additional requirements for Professional Development Purpose and alignment to the Learning Forward Professional Learning Standards. The form is included for your reference below and you can read more about the Learning Forward Standards here.
