Middle School: Seventh/Eighth Grade
Students in seventh and eighth grade have the opportunity to study art through the duration of their Middle School experience.
Art 1 - In this semester course, 7th and 8th grade students will explore different 2D and 3D concepts. This beginning hands-on studio course focuses on creative problem-solving and the art process. Students will experience a variety of materials and techniques, including but not limited to; tempera paint, pencil/colored pencil, modeling clay, and printmaking.
Art 2 - In this semester course, 7th and 8th grade students will continue and expand their exploration of 2D and 3D concepts. This hands-on studio course focuses on creative problem-solving and the art process. Students will experience a variety of materials and techniques, including but not limited to; charcoal, pen, watercolor paint, sculpture making, and printmaking.
Art 3 - In this semester course, 8th grade students will continue and expand their exploration of 2D and 3D concepts. This intermediate hands-on studio course focuses on creative problem-solving and the art process. Students will experience a variety of materials and techniques, including but not limited to; oil pastels, chalk pastels, acrylic paint, clay, and digital art.
Art 4 - In this semester course, 8th grade students will continue and expand their exploration of 2D and 3D concepts. This intermediate hands-on studio course focuses on creative decision-making and the art process. Students will experience a variety of materials and techniques, which may include but not be limited to; pencil, color pencil, charcoal, tempera paint, acrylic paint, modeling clay, clay, plaster, oil pastels, chalk pastels, sculpting materials, point-and-shoot digital photography, and digital artwork.
Each year, School District U-46 collaborates with Elgin State Bank to host the "Art Madness" middle school art showcase at the Tyler Creek Plaza branch of the Elgin State Bank. Approximately 25-40 students from each middle school have their artwork selected for display.
