Committee Work:
The Committee will act as a resource for parents of students in special education or those receiving special services/support by facilitating information sharing and making parents aware of both U-46 and outside community programs and resources available for their special needs child. The Committee also works to provide opportunities for parent engagement.
For the 2023-24 school year, the Committee will host and facilitate two informational programs. These programs will consist of topics applicable to all special needs children regardless of age or disability and will be presented by either U-46 personnel or outside experts who provide services to special needs children. Please see our calendar listing below for up-to-date topics and meeting locations.
In 2013, the Committee worked with the U-46 Special Education Department to create an informational video titled “Understanding Your Child’s IEP”, which serves as the foundational video of our Special Education University series. Both English and Spanish versions are available for viewing online. We highly recommend watching the video whether you are new to the IEP process, or are just needing a refresher.

2023-24 Presentations
Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, at 7 p.m. - "Executive Functioning: Preparing Your Child for Independence at All Ages," presented by Joey Williams, M.S., PH.D. candidate, Advanced Behavioral Solutions, LLC.
Improving executive functioning (i.e., problem solving, planning, and decision making) has been shown to have a significant positive impact on a person's mental health and their overall ability to successfully navigate social, emotional, academic, and daily life skills.
In this presentation, Advanced Behavioral Solutions will provide you with helpful day-to-day strategies for promoting your child's overall success by building their ability to manage their actions and choices independently. We will teach you simple techniques and small changes you can make in your daily interactions with your children that will increase their executive functioning and prepare them for their best life.
This program will be presented in English with Spanish interpretation.
