Superintendent's Student Advisory Council
-
What is the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council?
The Superintendent's Student Advisory Council is made up of approximately 35 students, in grades 9-12, who currently attend Bartlett High School, Elgin High School, Larkin High School, South Elgin High School, Streamwood High School, Dream Academy and Central School Programs. The advisory council was developed to provide the superintendent and district leaders with the opportunity to hear directly from the students they serve. Both district leaders and student members raise topics for discussion.
To be considered for Superintendent's Student Advisory Council membership, students should contact their school principal.
If current students have questions or ideas they would like to bring to the advisory council, they can contact their schools representative(s) or principal directly.
Each high school principal selects students to serve on the advisory council in the fall for the current school year.

They will also be responsible for the task of selecting the next student advisor to the Board of Education.

Meetings
Meetings are held from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Educational Services Center periodically throughout the school year, beginning in September and ending in May. If chosen to be on the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, it is the expectation that each council member attends ALL monthly meetings throughout the school year.
-
Meeting Attendance
If attendance becomes an issue and a council member misses two meetings, he or she will be up for consideration to be dropped from the council. This decision will be at the discretion of the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent of Schools, and Executive Director of High Schools.

Student Advisor to the Board
The Superintendent's Student Advisory Council is responsible for selecting the next student advisor to the Board. If a junior student on the council is selected as a candidate for the next student Board member in January 2025, that student would refrain from attending any future meetings until the interview process is completed and the next student board member is selected. Typically, a student candidate on the council can return to the last two meetings in April and May.
